Steins;Gate Ep10,11,12,13

Steins Gate 13

Hi all, It’s been a while since my last post.

In the string of episodes 10 – 13, the time leap machine was completed, and that the machine was tested out and used in the most dire circumstances. And the most dire circumstances is that someone important dies.

I won’t be giving a summary of this instance, but I’ll be giving what I think instead.

And so, we begin–

Time Leap Theory: Speculah

Differences from D-Mail

The principle of time leap is different from the D-Mail, in which the world lines do not merge, nor change in the instance that the D-Mail was sent. This reduces the instances and the events that might trigger a butterfly effect, in which uncontrolled effects would happen to the changed timeline. This allows every world to be different, in which the desired outcome may have been already present or existing and that the desired world line may have just been called out instead. The theories on the non-elasticity of the time-space reality may be resolved by having the time traveler change the reality of the world line that is different or that is near the state of the desired outcome.

The time leap, on the other hand, does not call for the change in the world lines in every instance information from the future is sent to the past. Unlike the D-mail system, in which the resulting action will be entirely dependent on the state of the mind of the receiver and from the wording of the limited information that is sent via SMS. As the old system may generate enough distortion to the reality that changes the world line, the new system of overwriting past memories seemingly directs the user properly; since meaning is not lost in translation. Since the window limit of 48 hours was imposed, the differences in the mental and reality states of both the sender and the recipient would not generate enough distortion to move nor merge the timelines. This allows the user to “genuinely change and direct the outcome in the future”, since we’re not calling another world line nor reality to replace the current one. This kind of time-travelling also stipulates that the consciousness of the person is located in the memories of the person, since the consciousness of the time-traveler is seamlessly integrated to his former self.

World Lines

This kind of system, however, may pose a problem. Since the world line hasn’t changed, the problem of the reality’s inelasticity isn’t solved. The reality of the world line may be really hard to change since the reality and the world’s events will be the same as the one previous. As stipulated by the theory on changing the past, one may need to exert considerable and monumental effort to change the reality and the events of the current world line for you to generate your desired outcome. This is evidenced by Mayushi being killed in a number of ways, regardless of the location nor the situation, and regardless of that Okarin has done to try and mitigate the events leading up to the point of death. This might indicate that her death in this world line is decided upon and is cannot be changed.

This scene: Priceless

Anyway, the ending of this episode tells us that Mayushi dies no matter what Okarin does. Much like how Mami dies in multiple timelines in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, despite Homura doing everything she can to help the Puella Magi (well, right before she begins hiding her true emotions). I’d like to see where this goes in the future.
