Needless to say, meat is a part of a lot of people’s eating routine, including Japanese. This word can be conjugated with other words to depict what kind of meat is being talked about (usually by attaching the animal’s name before the word niku).

Examples:

豚肉(ぶたにく/ butaniku)- pork

牛肉(ぎゅうにく/ gyuuniku) – beef

鶏肉(とりにく / toriniku) – chicken meat

焼肉(やきにく / yakiniku) – roast meat (usually beef)

Usage (Sample Sentences):

私は神戸の肉が一番好きです。

Watashi wa Koube no niku ga ichiban suki desu.

I like Kobe meat the most.

 

何が食べたいですか、果物ですか、肉ですか。

Nani ga tabetai desu ka, kudamono desu ka, niku desu ka?
