Anime “The Mononoke Lecture Logs of Chuzenji-sensei: He Just Solves All the Mysteries” is officially set to begin airing in April 2025. Along with this exciting news, the first key visual, teaser trailer, and the cast for Kanna Kusakabe and Akihiko Chuzenji have been revealed.
The story follows Kanna Kusakabe, a female student who encounters Akihiko Chuzenji, a newly appointed literature teacher at her school. Together, they face a series of supernatural incidents in a school setting, creating a unique blend of youthful drama and supernatural mystery. The anime is a prequel to Natsuhiko Kyogoku’s renowned Hyakki Yako novel series, which has surpassed 10 million copies in circulation, and is based on an original spin-off manga illustrated by Aki Shimizu that explores the high school teacher era of Kyogokudo.
The first key visual depicts Kanna Kusakabe and Akihiko Chuzenji standing back-to-back against the backdrop of a retro bookstore illuminated by the setting sun. The artwork vividly captures their relationship and the atmospheric tone of the story. Meanwhile, the teaser trailer offers a glimpse into the supernatural elements central to the series. The trailer also features the first unveiling of character voices, with Kaori Maeda voicing the curious and energetic Kanna Kusakabe and Katsuyuki Konishi portraying the stern-faced Japanese language teacher Akihiko Chuzenji. Comments from both cast members have also been shared.

Hello, I’m Kaori Maeda, and I will be playing the role of Kanna Kusakabe. This story, seen through Kanna’s perspective, follows Professor Chuzenji as he solves various mysteries. It’s a work that I think you’ll find engaging, with moments that will make you chuckle and others that will give you chills—something you can easily immerse yourself in and enjoy in your daily life!

Our setting is in Tokyo in 1948, just right after the war.
Kanna Kusakabe had just become a second-year at a high school when she met the new language teacher, Akihiko Chuzenji.
Mysterious supernatural things keep happening around Kanna. Once again today, Kanna is going to open the doors to the library prep room to seek help from the surly Chuzenji-sensei who is waiting inside.

A second-year student at Tokyo Metropolitan Mitogawa High School. She is curious, energetic, and has a big appetite. Kanna finds herself caught up in mysterious incidents involving the supernatural.
＜Akihiko Chuzenji＞
A temporary literature teacher who has been assigned to Kanna’s school. He is often seen with a perpetually stern expression, engrossed in a book. Chuzenji possesses sharp observational skills and exceptional deductive reasoning.
