TOKYO – March 31, 2025-— MyAnimeList has unveiled the official list for the third annual “You Should Read This Manga 2025,” a global event designed to highlight exceptional new-and-upcoming manga available to the international fan. The final list, curated from 766 user nominated titles, features 77 unique manga series across four discovery categories.
This highly-anticipated event aims to spotlight recently published manga and connect fans worldwide with new stories that deserve more recognition on a global scale. For 2025, the project continues to serve as a cultural bridge between creators, publishers, and readers in over 240 countries and territories.
As an added incentive, MyAnimeList users who read 2 volumes of any title from the 2025 list during the campaign period will earn a time-limited profile badge.
■ About “You Should Read This Manga”
A unique global manga promotion project carried out by world-renowned anime and manga community MyAnimeList in conjunction with industry professionals. The project is the first of its kind, using online nominations from users around the world to produce the ultimate list of manga recommendations for that year. Aside from the main category, “You Should Read This Manga,” the project includes a number of sub-categories, including series that fans would like to see animated.
“You Should Read This Manga 2025” Categories and Criteria
This global manga discovery project was launched with the goal of inspiring fans around the world to explore lesser-known but highly recommended titles. The final list is created from user-submitted nominations, which allows fans to vote for up to 10 titles and include persuasive reasoning for why each title should be featured. Titles must have seen an overseas release in 2024, and have a Score and Popularity ranking below #50 on MyAnimeList to be eligible for nomination. The 2025 edition includes four curated categories:
You Should Read This Manga 2025
For manga that readers simply really want to recommend to a friend! (e.g. Gachiakuta, Magus of the Library, Kagurabachi)
Should Be Anime
For manga not adapted into anime within the past 5 years. (e.g. Gokurakugai, Kindergarten Wars, Firefly Wedding)
Best for Beginners
For new readers; short, accessible, or recently adapted into anime. (e.g. Dandadan, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, RuriDragon)
Unique Art/Story
For seasoned manga fans seeking originality in artwork or narrative. (e.g. Veil, Kaiju Girl Caramelise, The Color of the End: Mission in the Apocalypse)

Trends from This Year’s List
- Demographic Balance: Half of the selected titles were originally published in shounen or seinen magazines. Notably, one in four of these titles received more votes from female readers.
- Digital Origins: 25% of the titles come from web-based manga platforms such as Shonen Jump+ or Manga UP.
- Anime Demand: Over half the “Should Be Anime” picks are shounen, with two-thirds of these available for free via MANGA Plus.
- Female Reader Influence: The “Unique Art/Story” list saw the majority of votes come from female users, in contrast to the other lists.
- Breakout Titles: Girls love/yuri manga The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All had total nominations almost equal to all GL titles combined from the previous year. Likewise, new nominations for action manga Kagurabachi doubled any other action title.
